Where To Buy 50 Gram Gold CombiBar At Lowest Price
We were looking for the cheapest 50g Gold CombiBar to buy before precious metals prices went up any more, so we started with the vendors we knew carried them and then, to make sure we had the LOWEST price Gold CombiBar went down the list of places to buy the CombiBar list on Valcambi’s site (US only).
It turns out that some of those places listed on Valcambi’s site charged some excruciating premiums!
Price isn’t everything when buying precious metals, there are other factors we consider too, like payment methods (cost, convenience), trust of the vendor we would be buying from, shipping costs, sell back pricing (not that you are required or obligated to sell it back at a later date to the same vendor, but we like to consider the sale of Gold at some point – hopefully at MUCH higher prices) – but it’s a start.
If we can find the same product, with similar service, for a lower price, we can buy more metal, simple as that.
Where I Looked First For The Cheapest CombiBar
Whenever I look to buy Gold or Silver for myself, a relative, friend or client I always check my short list of known cheapest Gold sources from past purchases, always cognisant that things change and a dealer who used to be cheapest may not be any longer (think Bullion Direct).
So I called Texas Precious Metals and OnlyGold just to make sure that, even though not listed on their website they did not offer the Valcambi CombiBar 50g Gold or 100g Silver. They don’t. Hard Assets Alliance (HAA) does so it’s in the table below.
Finally I hit the aforementioned list from Valcambi, US only. The results follow.
Total CombiBar Cost Including Shipping, Insurance, Wire Fees
If there is any vendor that I see some reason to NOT do business with, they just don’t make the cut, period. No need to worry about their price.
Of the others, there are 3 components to calculating their CombiBar price:
- Listed price, not including Credit Card price if offered because it’s always much higher due to card fees.
- Shipping/Insurance/Handling (whatever) additions. Some go by order value (don’t really like that, but what do you do but compare to others), others by actual costs which vary by zipcode compared to where they ship from. Some are included if over a certain value. Buying only 1 Gold CombiBar did not qualify for anyone’s free shipping, but if you are buying more than one it could be a small factor.
- Wire transfer fees if a wire is required. I”m OK sending a personal check and waiting a little longer if that saves the hassle and cost of a wire. There is one bank I use where the domestic wire fee is only $15, but everyone else is $25 so I’ve used $25 as the wire cost where required.
Where To Buy The Cheapest CombiBar (Gold)
At the time I priced the Gold CombiBar at the vendors listed below, spot gold was approximately $1376, and remember, a Gold CombiBar has 1.6075 ounces of .9999 Gold in it.
Places to buy the CombiBar are listed lowest price to highest, all included.
Vendor | Payment Method | CombiBar | Shipping | Wire Fee | Total Cost | Gold Premium |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Apmex | Check | $2345 | $25 | $0 | $2370 | 6.02% |
GoldMart | Check | $2365 | $16 | $0 | $2381 | 6.92% |
NWTMint (1) | Check | $2383 | $0 | $0 | $2383 | 7.7% |
Gainesville Coins | Wire | $2350 | $26 | $25 | $2401 | 6.24% |
ModernCoinMart (2) | Wire | $2376 | $0 | $25 | $2401 | 7.4% |
eBay | PayPal | $2435 | $0 | $0 | $2435 | 10.08% |
HAA (3) | ACH | $2372 | $65 | $0 | $2437 | 7.23% |
GoldSilver | Wire | $2391 | $26 | $25 | $2442 | 8.1% |
Notes:
1) Northwest Territorial Mint is a great vendor, but you will wait longer for products from them than any other we have used. They list expected wait time on the Gold 50g CombiBar to be 8 – 10 weeks.
2) Modern Coin Mart is the same vendor who had the lowest price on eBay. I confirmed by phone that shipping (when buying 1 Gold CombiBar on their site) is free.
3) Hard Assets Alliance requires a minimum purchase of $5000, so in this case 3 CombiBars (2 when the price crosses $2500!) would need to be bought and shipping reflects that. We included in this table since we recently blogged on their adding this item to their offerings.
* Gold Premium is just the CombiBar Gold cost, not including shipping & insurance which likely decreases as you buy more product.
Winner: Cheapest 50 Gram Gold CombiBar
Today Apmex is the place to buy the cheapest 50 gram Gold CombiBar, all costs included – except time.
Note, though, that when we first blogged on the CombiBar a few days back, Apmex did NOT have any in stock and that continued for a couple of days. Maybe because they are the cheapest and selling CombiBars like hot cakes? Who knows.
Hopefully the table above – laboriously compiled – will help when you go to buy Gold CombiBars or other precious metals products, and really want to know you have included all costs you will incur and find the best place to buy CombiBars, bullion or coins.
Please leave a comment if there is feedback on a vendor or a good, low price place to buy Gold that we have not included.
